The Flower Sisters

This book was a slow burn for me. I read this for book club and picked it because it was recommended on Kindle Unlimited.

Some of my book club LOVED and raved about this book. And there were some great twists and turns, but overall it didn’t hold my attention very well.

The book starts with a dance hall explosion with twin sisters Violet and Rose. Rose stays home and Violet goes to the dance hall with Dash her boyfriend. The dance hall explodes and Violet dies. This small town has a conniption and says that it was gods will that the hall exploded and basically blamed the people that went to the dance hall for being ungodly or something. Not having grown up in a very religious home it was interesting to read about that kind of response. Eventually the granddaughter of Rose comes to the small sleepy town in the Ozarks to live with her grandmother. She doesn’t like the town at first and hides out at her grandmother’s house, which doubles as a funeral home. CREEPY.

Daisy, the granddaughter, eventually makes her way to the local newspaper and ends up working there after spilling some gossip on a recent death. Being a nosy teenager she starts to look through old news articles and sees her grandmothers last name listed. Daisy is smart and realizes that Violet must have been Rose’s twin sister and wonders why she never heard about her. So she does some digging. It was interesting to see Daisy’s curiosity and the responses she gets from all of her interviews.

The people who survived the explosion are still living in that small town and hold powerful and respectable positions in the town. A Police Captain, a Priest, a Pharmacist, etc. So Daisy is naturally curious and wants to see how everyone viewed it. The police capitan will not talk to her. The priest openly says she is doing the devils work. The pharmacist talks about the friends she lost. Daisy is so curious why her grandmother shut her down and why all of the other people seem to want little to do with this story. WHY WON’T ANYONE TALK ABOUT IT??

The ending of the book was probably the most exciting for me. There is death and big revelations about who Rose and Violet were and why everyone ended up where they are.

Rating: 2 out of 5.
