(The Veiled Realm #1)
By: Analeigh Ford
This book was a lot of set up for the rest of the series which lead to my three start rating. It was a lot of information that is necessary for the next book, but it required a lot of attention. I saw it on Tik Tok and was lead to believe it was similar to ACOTAR but with reverse harem and super spicy, so HELLO SIGN ME UP!! But at least in this book I found that lacking.
Delphine is our FMC in this series. In the beginning she works for some wealthy, or once wealthy, lord. She seems to be a favorite to the Lord, but is hated by everyone else in her village. Okay, she has like two friends, but they don’t show up for her later so I don’t count them. So, we have our lonely FMC who is basically trying to make it through life while being “Fae Marked” so she looks like Fae. Anyway a Fae shows up and steals her away pretty quick into the book and takes her to the Fae realm. I really liked Fords world building for the Fae realm and thought it was fun to have sections of the realm split up by Forest, Sand, Ocean, and Mountain. It was an interesting take on the courts system and I did enjoy that.
Delphine kind of flounders her way through this book, but gets to see the Forest and Mountain courts along with the four princes of the courts. I didn’t really connect with any of the MMCs in this book and felt that the chemistry was lacking between characters. I hope the RH stuff picks up in the next book.
